Q: I heard that Old Brown Glue is an excellent glue for wood furniture. I have some tables and chairs that need repair, but I can’t find this glue. Can you let me know if I might purchase it somewhere around Atlanta? Thank you. — Ed McAllister, Roswell
A: This glue, which can be refrigerated to extend its 18-month shelf life, then softened in warm water, comes in two sizes and is available locally at Woodcraft, 8560 Holcomb Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 770-587-3372. The 20-ounce bottle of Old Brown Glue sells for $20.99 and the 5-ounce bottle is priced at $8.99.
Q: I’ve been searching for a candy that I loved in my childhood; it’s called Turkish Taffy. They were bars of candy that came in vanilla, strawberry, banana or chocolate. The closest I have come to anything like it is Laffy Taffy that is sold in bite-sized pieces. Where can I find the individually wrapped candy bars from my childhood? — Karen Briggs, Stone Mountain
A: Candy lore has it that Turkish Taffy came about by accident around 1912, in New York, when a batch of marshmallow got side-tracked by the addition of too many egg whites. Candy maker Herman Herer transformed his sweet mistake into Turkish Taffy, which became the chewy candy that continues to enjoy dedicated fans more than a century later. You’ll find the large bars of Turkish Taffy for $1.22 each at Richard’s Variety Store, 931 Monroe Drive, Atlanta, 404-879-9877. The store stocks vanilla, banana and wild cherry. Richard’s also carries the small pieces of Turkish Taffy.
Q: I am new to the Atlanta area, and still have my house on Bainbridge Island, Washington. At my house, I have a pasta cooker. It is a big pot with a smaller one as an insert with drain holes in the bottom. I fill the big pot with water, place the insert in the pot, and add pasta when the water boils, then cover. The pasta eventually becomes soft and cooked. When it’s done, the smaller one is removed and the water drained out. I cannot locate one in Atlanta. Do you have a suggestion where I might find one? Thanks. — J.B. Holcomb, email
A: I found two pasta pots for you. Both are in stock locally, but you can check them out online first to see which you might prefer. At The Cook’s Warehouse, 1544 Piedmont Ave., Atlanta, 404-815-4993, you’ll find the All-Clad 6-quart pasta pot with polished stainless exterior. When you’re not using the removable insert, you can use the heavy bottomed pot for stocks or soups. The dishwasher-safe pot is priced at $99.95. Crate and Barrel, 3400 Around Lenox Drive, Atlanta, 404-239-0008, stocks the Calphalon Contemporary non-stick 8-quart multipot with a lid and two inserts. One insert is for cooking various types of pasta, and the other is more shallow, ideal for steaming vegetables. This pot features a tempered glass-and-stainless steel lid, and a dark gray anodized exterior. It’s also priced at $99.95.
Q: Every time I get to liking a makeup, it gets a name change or discontinued. I cannot find a shade even close to Wet n Wild 370S Lolly Popstar. It’s certainly not expensive. Where can I go to buy up what’s left? Thanks. — Marcia Jaffe, Atlanta
A: Although you can’t easily find your lipstick, you’ll be pleased to know that it hasn’t been discontinued. I found it in Atlanta and online. It’s still available on the Wet n Wild website, which takes you to www.drugstore.com to order. You can buy one tube for $2.99, or four for $2.74 each. There are other online resources for this color, including www.walmart.com, where it sells for $2.93. Locally, I found Wet n Wild Lolly Popstar lipstick for $2.99 at Rite Aid, 3964 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-237-2194.
