For Elizabeth Heard, a hair barrette is the final touch to any outfit.

She designs, makes and sells unique hair barrettes made from a variety of whimsical objects. Barrettes from her "You're A Gem" line are made with slices of brightly-colored agate, while her "Party Animal" line features gold-plated rhinos and elephants.

Others are made from natural cork infused with gold flake and objects like oyster shells or miniature, gold-plated bats. She also makes pre-tied clip-on bows in leather, cotton twill, suede, denim and basket weave.

"I am a forever fan of hair barrettes and have had an unabashed obsession since childhood," says Heard, who lives in Atlanta.

She intends for her creations to be worn for all occasions. Those include everything from parties to poolside, and even sleeping.

Heard sells her barrettes with a variety of backs to hold hair of every type. The barrettes range from $34.50 to $60 depending on the size of the back and the material.
