You know her as co-host of “The View.”

But what you may not know is that Sherri Shepherd is also a diabetic. For years, Shepherd was told she needed to drop the pounds, exercise and get healthy.

Diabetes took her mother’s life and today, Shepherd is determined that her son won’t lose her.

Today, her diabetes is under control and she wants to make sure that others have the same chance to get healthy. She will discuss and sign copies of new book “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (even if you don’t have it )” at the 7 p.m. Friday at the Shrine of the Black Madonna Bookstore, 946 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd. S.W. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will also be free health screenings.

The book is the ticket to the event and all books must be purchased at the Shrine Bookstore. Admission for those without a book is $10, which can be used toward the purchase of the book that evening.
