The impact and legacy of the Tennessee Valley Authority is the subject of a Sept. 20 symposium at the National Archives at Atlanta in Morrow.
Running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., it will include seven speakers on various aspects of the history of the TVA, compiled using the 13,000 cubic feet of records at the Archives. The records document families impacted and displaced by TVA dams through a wealth of photographs and interviews.
Speakers will include Pat Bernard Ezzell, Micah Cash, Caroline Peyton, Matthew Downs, Abou Bamba, Laura Beth Daws and Maureen Hill. The event is free but is limited to 200. Junior League in DeKalb
The history of the Junior League in DeKalb County will be the subject of the Sept. 16 DeKalb History Center Lunch and Learn lecture. The event is at noon in the Old Courthouse on the Square in Decatur and is free; bring your own lunch.
The speakers will cover the origin and impact of the women’s service group in DeKalb.

Genealogy workshop
There will be a half-day genealogy workshop at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), 3355 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sept. 13.
This free event will include 10 genealogy classes and four history programs. Speakers will represent the co-sponsors — the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, Georgia Genealogical Society and the LDS Church.
Topics will include starting family research, Colonial lifestyles, using early census records, using smartphone apps, lineage society applications, research strategies, and a two-hour computer lab on using familysearch.com.
