Rock down to Electric Avenue and join ‘80s tribute to new wave, dance pop

What is New wave? New wave emerged as a type of popular music in the 1970s and 1980s. The genre was defined in opposition to punk and mainstream rock. Popular British New wave bands included the Human League, A Flock of Seagulls and Duran Duran to name a few. U.S. acts included Blondie, The Cars and Athens' own B-52s. The music stylings of New wave continued to influence tunes in the 1990s, which according to AllMusic included Franz Ferdinand and Interpol.

If you miss the '80s, tribute band Electric Avenue has you covered in Buford next month.

The group dedicated to pop music from the decade characterized by big hair and synthesizers will perform at 37 Main Buford on March 7.

“Electric Avenue ‘The 80’s MTV Experience’ is hands down, the most fun and accurate tribute to 1980s New Wave & Dance Floor Pop that you’re going to find, anywhere,” reads the event description.

Tickets for the 21 and up show are on sale now for the show, which begins at 9:30 p.m. General admission is $15 and is strictly standing and bar seating. The ticket guarantees entry to the show, but not a seat, which is first come, first served. Doors open at 7 p.m.

For those wanting and upgraded experience, $149 gets you a reserved table and four table wristbands. Tables only seat four people, so if there’s a fifth person in your party, another package must be purchased to ensure your pal can sit in the area. No general admission ticket holders will be permitted. Make sure the entire party is there by 9 p.m. to ensure you can keep the package.

Touted as “the ‘80s experience,” Electric Avenue is comprised of members who have toured with some of the biggest acts of the 1980s and beyond including Toto, Athens’ own The B-52s, Sugarland and Zac Brown Band, both of which emerged from Atlanta.

Electric Avenue’s sets include tunes from Wham!, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, Kenny Loggins and Prince among others.

“Enough songs and memories to ensure that you are the star of your own John Hughes film!” their biography states.
