Wesley, a 3.5-month-old neutered retriever/chow mix, is a fluffy, active puppy who needs a home with a family that wants an active, hairy dog. This pup will grow to be quite large, so he will need training early to get him started on the right paw. He will also need once-weekly brushing to be his best. Retrievers are typically playful, outgoing, energetic and people-oriented, while chows are a bit more reserved and independent. Children in the home can help with daily care, but should not be expected to take full care of any pet without adult supervision. Please bring all children (and any existing dogs) to meet this big puppy. Dogs do not do well when left in yards by themselves, though a yard will be a plus for exercising Wesley, especially after he is grown. All dogs need structure and leadership, and Wesley is no exception. ! The Atlanta Humane Society recommends crate training for all new adoptees to help with housetraining and general adaptation to a new environment; most dogs learn to love their crates, and they certainly help the humans to be less frustrated. All canine and feline adoptions from AHS include free extras, but the initial cost of a dog or cat is only part of the money a new owner will need to spend to properly care for a pet during its lifetime. Wesley will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society Howell Mill Campus, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 11 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications.
