If you've been on Facebook over the past few days, especially during the heat wave that's been blanketing the Northeast and Mid Atlanic areas, you've probably seen the post about ice water being dangerous for dogs.

According to a vet interviewed by Fox 17 in Grand Rapids, Mich., the blog post and recurring Facebook shares are not true.

Dr. Randall Carpenter said that the post has actually gone back to 2007, but has made a comeback recently.

"If the dog is overheated and dehydrated, and desperate for fluids and they consume huge, huge amounts of ice cubes or water all at one time, it could create a situation where the dog could bloat." Carpenter said.

WKBN reported bloat can happen no matter the temperature of water.

Snopes.com has also investigated the claims and has found them untrue.
