Spock the cat is suffering from a case of mistaken identity.

Spock’s owner wants her neighbors to know that he really is just a lovable and mischievous domestic cat, and not a bobcat or other wild animal.

Collen Pizarev told the San Jose Mercury News that a neighbor accused her of harboring a bobcat, after seeing her 27-pound, 46-inch Maine Coon peering out the window.

Another neighbor mistook the massive cat for a lynx.

Pizarev assures her neighbors that Spock is only interested in possums and squirrels, though the indoor-only cat poses no threat to wildlife or the neighbors’ pets.

Neighbors aren’t the only ones who do a double take when seeing Spock. Workers won’t come into the house unless Spock is restrained.

The only thing that Spock threatens is his owner’s household budget. The cat eats approximately a pound of pure fish, chicken, turkey or pork daily. He has a penchant for destruction, knocking over household items like coffee cups.

The cat can open every door in the house. Spock’s long body allows him to easily reach the door knobs. He’s also ripped a wire mesh door screen designed to stop large dogs from escaping.

Even though Spock’s owner has been forced to toddler-proof her house for the oversized cat, she says his lovable and gentle nature make up for any of his naughty habits.
