A pair of affectionate dogs in a Georgia shelter captivated hearts around the world this summer.

The dogs, named Kala and Keira, were photgraphed embracing each other in a cage at the Etowah County Humane Society shelter in July. The pair were facing euthanasia and the photo, which was posted on Facebook, led to them being rescued by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.

Two women who recently lost their elderly dogs saw the viral story about the “hugging dogs,” and when they realized the pair were still available for adoption, they immediately applied. Kala, a hound mix, and Keira, a boxer mix, now have a loving home together.

The dogs’ new owners hope to keep the public updated on the dogs via Facebook.
