AKC's list of the top registered dogs in Atlanta.

According to the American Kennel Club, in 2001 the Bulldog finally cracked the top 10 list of most popular registered dog breeds. But the University of Georgia's beloved mascot couldn't score a top 10 spot among Atlanta owners. Folks, where's the love?!?!?So, what breeds made the cut?

Names: Maddi and Mercy Nicknames: Stinky and The Best GirlBreed: Miniature dachshunds Ages: 2 years old and 15 years old. In this photo, Maddie was nine weeks old and Mercy was 13 years old.Favorite Toy: Maddi's favoriate toy is a stuffed Christmas stocking we call "Baby" and Mercy's favorite toy is Maddi.

9. The Doberman Pinscher This the first year that Doberman Pinschers made Atlanta's top 10 list.

8. The Miniature Schnauzer This feisty breed was bumped off the national list in 2007. Perhaps it had something to do with a certain Georgia schnauzer named Tori, who required a house call by 'Dog Whisperer' Cesar Milan in 2006?

7. The Shih Tzu Speaking of feisty dogs, last year a pack of homeless shih tzus eluded residents of the Covered Bridge Condominiums on Powers Ferry Road in east Cobb County for months. Finally a pair of dogs was captured, just before giving birth to adorable shih tzu pups.

6. The Yorkshire Terrier Gidget offers a prime example of the Yorkie's appeal. The purse pooches rank No. 2 nationally.

4. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Just like his famous owner, Atlanta Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur, Brody has gained popularity in recent years. The breed moved from 7th to 4th on the Atlanta list in 2007.

3. The German Shepherd This intelligent breed also ranks third nationally. But in Miami and Detroit, the German Shepherd ranks as Top Dog.

1. The Labrador Retriever Nationally, Coop's beloved breed has held the title of Top Dog for 17 consecutive years. Better luck next time, Uga!
