Atlanta's Top Dogs: 3. German Shepherds

Atlanta's ajcpets.com readers show off their German Shepherd photos. The breed ranks third among the most popular in metro Atlanta.

Whether they are protecting the household or chilling on the couch like Kandi, German shepherds have claimed the hearts of many Atlantans. The breed ranks as third most popular breed, according to the American Kennel Club. Take a look at some of Atlanta's finest!

Shiloh Hamilton-Green, a.k.a. Pooh Bears, Poohs, the Poohs, Boos, Boo Bears, Bear, Shy and Bubonics. She's my best friend, protector, exercise partner and baby!

Shiloh is 100 pounds and 7 years old. She has traveled all over this great country with me. I got her my senior year at UGA. Looking back, I should have let her have a litter of pups before having her spayed; she is truly intelligent and has the most amazing disposition.

This is a tribute to Zach who died of Cancer 1 year ago at age 7. AWESOME animal!

Dutch loves to show off for visitors. He is also an excellent guard dog, and ensures that Talula the cat is safe every day.

In loving memory of Barron who was suddenly taken from us last week at the age of one. He will live on in our hearts forever. MomMom and Daddy miss you terribly. We love you sweet baby!

Heidi (four years old) is just a big teddybear. We were enjoying the warm weather for Christmas at St. Simons. As you can see, Heidi differs from the traditional American Shepherd because she is mostly black and long-haired. But she is 100 percent German Shepherd! Both her parents were born in Germany.

Anson LOVES the beach.

Here's Kandi with Santa (Dec, 2007). She's 10 years old and an excellent ambassador for the breed. Friendly, smart, loyal and a GREAT addition to our family.

Our boy, Anson, at six weeks old. He is now five years old.
