History: Some older adults or those who live with life-threatening sicknesses or disabilities find it challenging to feed and care for their pets. That's where Pets Are Loving Support (PALS) comes to the rescue. The nonprofit has been providing pet food, veterinary care, transportation and other services to those who need it since 1990. PALS was started by two women who learned that a man living with AIDS would share his only meal with his cat and would sometimes skip getting his medication to pay for vet care.
Did you know: The nonprofit's signature event is Drag Queen Bingo, held on second Tuesday of the month at Lips Atlanta.
Its motto: To foster the healing and comforting bond between pets and their owners, PALS wants to encourage people to "help a friend, keep a friend."
How you can help: Invite family and friends out for an exciting night of bingo. Volunteers are needed for assisting at the vet clinic, taking pets to appointments and distributing pet food. Financial donations go directly to support the animals.
