History: PAWS Atlanta formed in 1964 when a group of volunteers raised money to purchase a home for a no-kill animal shelter — a place where pets could stay until they were adopted. PAWS Atlanta is the oldest no-kill animal shelter in Georgia.

Did you know: Last year, pet parents adopted 839 dogs and cats through PAWS Atlanta. The Decatur-based nonprofit also offers foster care services, senior support with pet matching services, a food bank, public wellness clinics and much more.

Its motto: Bringing people and pets together.

How you can help: Sign up to become a 'Guardian Angel' monthly supporter. The greatest need during the COVID-19 pandemic is financial. While PAWS Atlanta is temporarily closed to the public, its staff continues to care for the animals at the shelter. Order pet food, toys and cleaning supplies through the PAWS Atlanta website and 10% of your purchases benefit the nonprofit. You can also host a virtual happy hour or Facebook fundraiser.
