Shopping for affordable kids clothes is only one perk of the Glenn Sale, an annual event scheduled for Sept. 23-24. The consignment sale also offers a way for the community to support one of Atlanta's beloved churches.

The Glenn Sales is one of the oldest consignment sales in metro Atlanta, and has been a tradition on Emory University's campus since 1985. The sale supports Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in DeKalb County.

With more than 425 sellers at each of the two annual events, the sale benefits the families whose children have outgrown their clothes and toys as well as the community. Part of the proceeds go toward the Glenn School for Young Children, which is a preschool offered at the church, and other charitable donations.

Consignors can also mark gently used items that are not sold for donation. Although maternity clothes are not part of the Glenn Sale, they can be donated to be passed on to another charitable organization.

The organizations that benefit from the sale include youthSpark, International Rescue Committee, SafeHouse Outreach, Friends of Refugees, the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence and others.

"I don't like buying anything at full price, much less baby things that will be outgrown so soon," said Sarah Austin, who plans to shop the Glenn Sale for clothing for her 2-month-old daughter, Elizabeth. "I can afford nicer stuff when I buy it gently used, and I like my money going back into my community, so it's a win-win."

The Glenn Sale begins 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. Because of the expected crowds, no children or babies are allowed before noon.

The sale will continue 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and items will be half off.
