If you and your kids love the outdoors and have ever thought about conservation of our nation's wetlands, then consider taking part in one of two Greenwing Days this month.

Walton County Greenwing Day will be 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 13, at 1391 Hightower Trail, Social Circle, Ga. 30025. Cost is $20 per child and includes lunch, a camouflage T-shirt and all activities, as well as lunch for parents. The day's activities include archery, games, raffles and more. Steve Scruggs from Let's Get Wild will be on hand for the day's fun.

Rome Greenwing Day will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 20, at Arrowhead Wildlife Management Area, 2615 Floyd Springs Road NE, Armuchee, Ga. 30105. Cost is $15 per child, which includes lunch, a T-shirt and all activities. Lunch for adults is $5 per person. The day's activities include sporting clay, BB gun and 410 target shoots, 3D archery, inflatables and more. A representative from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be there to discuss shooting instruction and safety.

With participation in these events, youngsters will become members of Ducks Unlimited Greenwings, an organization that is 60,000 strong across America.

Ducks Unlimited is committed to the conservation, restoration and management of wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

The organization got its start in 1937 during the Dust Bowl, when North America's drought-plagued waterfowl populations plunged to unprecedented lows. At that time, a small group of sportsmen formed Ducks Unlimited with a singular mission of habitat conservation.

The organization today leads the way in conserving more than 13.5 million acres of land across North America.

"These two events are very organized and safe events for kids to get outside and do things they may not otherwise have an opportunity to do," said Jeff Barnes, Greenwing chairman for Ducks Unlimited Georgia.

You can get more information and register for both events online.
