Have you ever thought about building a house ... out of aluminum cans? Well, now you and your kids can put your used cans to good use.

The Falcons and Novelis are teaming up for Recycle for Good, a campaign that challenges Falcons fans (and all Atlanta area residents) to recycle 3 million aluminum cans throughout the upcoming football season.

Once collected, the cans will be recycled by Novelis, the world's largest recycler of aluminum, and proceeds from the recycling effort – estimated to be $80,000 – will be used to fund the building of an Atlanta Habitat for Humanity house in Atlanta's Westside.

Your family can set a personal donation goal, enlisting or challenging friends and neighbors to participate to meet or beat that goal. Kids may want to challenge their classes to participate, also.

"This is all happening right here in Georgia," said Ashley Gravlee, manager of corporate social responsibility for Novelis.

The campaign joins Novelis, the Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and the Georgia Dome to increase recycling habits in the Atlanta community, according to a news release issued by Novelis.

In Georgia, an estimated $73 million worth of aluminum goes to landfills annually.

"As the official recycling partner of the Atlanta Falcons and a longstanding partner of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, we are coming together and working to divert that value from landfill and use it for good, building a house right here in Atlanta's historic Westside community," Gravlee said.

"The Atlanta Falcons are committed to being the greenest team in the NFL and our fans are known to rise up in the face of a challenge," Rich McKay, president and CEO of the Falcons, said in a news release issued by Novelis. "Recycle for Good gives the Falcons organization the opportunity to engage our fans and reinforce our commitment to sustainability and community."

Starting with the Falcons' first home game, against Tampa Bay on Sept. 11, there will be a drop-off location on the West Plaza by the Georgia Dome. There will also be recycling bags in the Dome's tailgate areas for fans to contribute their used cans. Novelis will also sponsor a sorting program inside the Dome to ensure as many aluminum cans as possible are recycled during all home games.

Not going to a game? Habitat for Humanity is accepting can donations at its headquarters at 824 Memorial Drive SE, Atlanta, Ga., 30316. Look for the collection center in the parking lot.

For more information on additional collection centers opening later in the season, visit the Atlanta Falcons website.
