Gerber is voluntarily recalling two batches of its organic pouch baby food, according to an announcement sent to the Food and Drug Administration Thursday.
Gerber Products Company said that they identified a defect in the packaging of two of its Gerber Organic 2nd Food pouches that could lead to spoilage during transport and handling.
The company said it is offering replacement coupons to consumers who purchased the two affected products: Pears, Carrots and Peas with UPC 15000074319; and Carrots, Apples and Mangoes with UPC 15000074395.
Pears, Carrots and Peas pouches with "best by" dates 12JUL2016 and and 13JUL 2016 and batch codes 51945335XX; and 51955335XX, should be thrown away.
Carrots, Apples and Mangoes pouches with "best by" dates 13JUL2016 and 14JUL2016 and batch codes 51955335XX and 51965335XX should be thrown out.
The best by dates and batch codes can be found on the back of the pouches at the bottom.
"We are proactively working to retrieve all remaining pouches of the affected batches that fail to meet our quality standards," Gerber President and CEO Gary Tickle said in an announcement on Gerber's website Thursday.
Gerber said the recall does not affect any other Gerber products.
In the recall announcement, the company said, "Consumers may notice that, in some cases, the pouches are bloated and product inside may have an off taste or odor. There have been three consumer reports of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms, however, we have been unable to confirm that these are related to the product."
Consumers are asked to call the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-706-0556 anytime for a replacement coupon for the recalled products.
More information can be found at the Gerber website.
