A baby's name can have a big impact on the rest of their life, which is why some parents are paying hundreds to thousands of dollars to have someone else choose it for them.
Name-selecting services in the U.S. and Europe can help feuding parents decide on a name and avoid mishaps like inappropriate initials or their new little one sharing a name with a serial killer.
The services can cost from $500 to over $29,000. That will get you research on things like historic ties a name has or a family's cultural background and could take a few weeks.
"Believe me, you don't want to name a child with an unattractive name and have them go through life and suffer the consequences," one UCLA psychology professor told Bloomberg.
According to the professor's research, names create positive or negative impressions, which can affect social and professional goals.
And with a push for unique names -- especially from celebrities -- professional services may have just revamped the search.
