Keeping kids engaged in learning during the summer months can be a challenge under the best of circumstances. But this year, summer may feel extra long for parents who have had young ones home from school for months already.

For those navigating remote learning, a metro Atlanta learning academy has waived its tuition fees and started offering online instruction.

The Kids 'R' Kids branch in Marietta, which has been in business for more than 25 years, pivoted its plan amid the pandemic to continue serving its students, according to reporting from 11Alive.

“I've been working since 1971, and in my career, I've never experienced anything quite like this ... to have the massive shutdown of the economy and the unemployment we’re experiencing, it's never occurred in my career before. It's something brand new to handle,” co-owner Marty Nixon told the TV station.

While the center has seen a decrease in the number of students they are seeing, the center’s director Diane Heilmann said she expects things to pick back up in August as families refocus on learning efforts.

“We're not sure if we will be right where we're supposed to be, but we're just taking it one day at a time. We're really proud of the staff for hopping right back into things and implementing new policies and procedures to make sure our school is safe and a good environment for the children,” Heilmann told 11Alive.
