The apparent email was posted by a Macy's employee on Facebook. It says, “After careful consideration we have decided to open at 6 p.m. (local time) on Thanksgiving. Although this was not an easy decision, due to competitive pressure, we feel it is the right one for our customers and our company.”

The email goes on to say, “There is no question that our customers are eager to begin their holiday shopping on Thanksgiving Day.”

As in previous years, Black Friday shopping times have begun well before the start of Black Friday. While Macy’s is the first retailer to officially announce its hours, it should be noted that many more will likely follow suit.
