When it comes to social activities this summer, some throwback activities are all the rage. That includes drive-in movie theaters, which are popping up around the metro area.

While Starlight Drive-In off Atlanta’s Moreland Avenue was recently named the best drive-in theater in Georgia, it’s no longer the only player in town.

Across metro Atlanta, movie theaters have shifted to offering outdoor shows for customers to see a flick while also maintaining a safe distance.

From the Plaza Theatre to the roof of Ponce City Market and up to Roswell, outdoor movie options abound.

If you’re looking for something to do on the weekends this summer, Roswell’s Aurora Cineplex is showing movies at its drive-in on Friday and Saturday nights.

The films range from throwbacks to newer releases.

This weekend, the drive-in will show:

Friday, July 3: “Back to the Future”

Saturday, July 4: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Space is limited, so those interested in seeing the film should buy tickets online in advance. Then, parking begins at 8 p.m. for the 9:30 p.m. show.

Guests can either watch the movie from their vehicle or bring a lawn chair to set up near your car, so long as they remain spaced out from others.

Concessions are available at a walk-up window.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
