Update: Today is the last day that pet lovers can "earn" free meals from Halo for shelter pets. See the directions below.

Halo, Purely for Pets, a pet food company partly owned by Ellen DeGeneres, is offering a free meal to a shelter pet for every pet photo posted on social media with the hashtag #halofeeditforward.

Caroline Golon, a spokeswoman of Halo, said photos posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will earn a donation, as long as the hashtag #halofeeditforward is used. The campaign runs through June 30.

Golon said the company, which has been operating for more than 25 years, donates 1.5 million meals to shelter pets through its Feed it Forward program each year.
