Superior Court Judge Meng Lim will receive the 2016 Friends of Freedom award from New American Pathways.

The fourth annual Red, White and New fundraising event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at The Ballroom of the Carlos Center, 2500 Clairmont Rd. N.E.

Lim and his family fled Cambodia’s genocide when he was a child, walking a month to safety. He arrived in this country speaking no English and having never sat in a classroom. His father was a principal - and thus a target - of the brutal Khmer Rouge, which unleashed a genocide in which up to two million people died.

Tickets are $125 until Aug. 1, and $150 after that date. There will also be live and silent auctions, with proceeds benefiting New American Pathways.

New American Pathways is an Atlanta-based nonprofit that serves the refugee community. It was created in 2014 by the merger of Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta (RRISA) and Refugee Family Services.
