Art from Thailand, Istanbul and their own families fill the Castleberry Hill loft of Diana and Kevin Sheldon. In a large gallery wall that stretches the length of their staircase there are paintings from Italy, a mermaid figurine from Alaska, wood carvings from Thailand, a sculpture by Diana’s daughter and more.
“We’ve got a lot of art between us,” said Diana. “Sort of modern contemporary meets old world historic stuff, that’s us.”
The couple decided to downsize in 2017, moving from Haynes Park to a loft in Castleberry Hill. They had to get rid of some great pieces, like a huge black chandelier, but their home is still filled with art, like the art by her daughter in Diana’s office and three mannequins that Diana painted herself.
“My first mannequin I named her Stella Revealed,” said Dianna. “I felt like it was a commentary on women and objectification, and I’m sort of I’m still on that, but to me women are beautiful and what comes out of us is all of this growth and nurture and love. That is my vision.”
Diana got the idea for the mannequins when she saw a similar design in a salon and got inspired. Since then she’s taken one of them to be displayed at Burning Man.
Kevin and Diana’s loft will be on the Castleberry Hill Loft Tour on Oct. 12.
