Atlanta’s Jennifer Healey has the know-how for designing classic and elegant interiors that are approachable, rich in detail and well edited.

Designer & background: Grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from the University of Florida. After working in advertising for several years in Atlanta, Healey found a position working for a window treatment designer in his showroom at ADAC (Atlanta Decorative Arts Center). She also took evening design classes and partnered with a friend before starting Atlanta-based J. Healey Interiors.

First design job: The home of a German bachelor friend of ours living in Atlanta.

As seen in: Southern Living; Atlanta Home; and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazines. Also at the Magnolia Designer Show House (through Nov. 13) in Cartersville.

Design pet peeves: Rooms that are "overdone" or off limits.

Current design obsessions: Wallpaper; painted floors; upholstered walls; folding screens; bright yellow; vintage floral prints; and fine art photography.

New (or re-emerging) designs I like: Chinoiserie. It is never out, but it is being published more.

… and looks I am glad to see go: The "relaxed mass manufactured slipcover look" that was everywhere. The look has its place, especially at the ocean or lake.

Most unusual request: A bar, complete with refrigerator and ice maker, in a master closet. But, really, isn't that fabulous?

Every room needs: Fabulous lighting from a variety of sources; a great mirror; original art; fresh flowers; books and/or magazines; and something that makes you really happy to see.

Favorite design tricks: Mirrors (whether on a wall or a mirrored table); painting trim and walls the same color, especially in a small space or an architecturally quirky space; and painting small spaces with dark paint.

About me

Family & neighborhood: My husband and I have two children (ages 12 and 15) and live in Ardmore Park.

My home style: Welcoming and comfortable in a warm neutral palette with limited pops of color.

Household issues I am fussy about: My family would say everything. We have a small house, so "everything in its place."

Favorite pieces & possessions: A painting of Grand Central Station by Geoffrey Johnson because I love the contrast of the dark figures with the background, and we adore New York. Also a painting of the ocean and horizon by Courtney Garrett (it's moody and changes with the light). And our wire-haired dachshund, Stella, because it isn't home without her.

What I collect or cannot stop buying: Works of art on paper; table linens; Antica Farmacista Candles in Aqua; lamps; coffee table books; and fresh flowers.

Latest project: A ground up, classic all-American family home in Buckhead. Think Ralph Lauren.

Up next: A complete, top to bottom, master suite re-do in Brookwood Hills and a couple of kitchen/family room/outdoor space renovations in Buckhead and Brookhaven.
