When Jenniffer and Michael Marblestone built their home in 2015, they’d already been planning it for about 15 years. Michael lead the effort as builder, working with LandART and Tojo Construction to build their European-style cottage home.

Growing up in California, building your own home was never on Jenniffer’s radar, but Michael had seen his own parents build homes.

“His dream was always to build,” said Jenniffer.

They found a piece of land in Acworth that was close enough to city life, while still providing enough space to build the kind of home that they wanted.

“We wanted a lot of quality things in the house, but we couldn’t afford them for what people were selling them,” said Jenniffer.

That’s where Michael’s salvaging skills came in. He got on Craigslist and managed to find almost everything they wanted, including the wood for their 12-inch plank heart pine floors, beams and doors, all of which he reclaimed and had refinished at Babb Lumber Company.

They filled their home with European flair, like the fireplace in the family room that is open on both sides, the 1895 European clawfoot tub in their master bathroom that belonged to Michael’s great-grandfather and the lighting, almost all of which came from Belgium, Italy or France.
