You know it's spring in Georgia when the azaleas bloom

Azalea Watch at Callaway Gardens officially began on March 15th. The plants are so popular, garden staff decided a few years ago to post daily pictures of the perennials online.

Bruno spreads organic soil on the plants.

Native azaleas prefer organic fertilizer sources, like cottonseed meal, composted manure or blood meal.

Callaway's famed azalea exhibit is the nonprofit's second most popular tourist attraction. The No. 1 draw is the winter Fantasy in Lights show.

There are 600 varieties of exotic and native deciduous azaleas that come in a rainbow of colors.

This garden shows some of the other shades common to azaleas.

The Callaway Gardens Azalea Bowl. The azalea exhibit is the main attraction at Callaway's Spring Celebration, which begins March 22 through April 20. The exhibit, which features more than 20,000 bushes, is in its 10th year.

Admiral Semmes azaleas look like a burst of sunshine.

The Hills and Dales Estate in LaGrange, which is near Callaway Gardens, is another good place to to see azaleas and other flowers.

Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta is lined with azaleas.

Azaleas were in bloom near the 16th hole at the 2007 Masters golf tournament at Augusta National last April.
