Chef and Buckhead Life Restaurant Group founder Pano Karatassos and his wife Georgia made over their kitchen to include all the features that a chef would want.

Buckhead Life Restaurant founder Pano Karatassos and his wife, Georgia, made over their 1984 kitchen in Buckhead to include all the features and conveniences the two cooks could want. Their island is divided into a serving area and a workstation that includes the stove.

Conveniences include rollout drawers for pots and pans, a Viking stove with plenty of firepower and a ventilation system that can be cranked up fast to handle greater exhaust. "You can go from normal to strong really quickly," Pano Karatassos said. The wood floor flows into the adjacent butler's pantry.

The Viking mixer, which Georgia Karatassos loves but says is too heavy to lift, sits on a swing-out shelf, plugged in and ready to go. "This way, I can just open the door and pull the shelf up, and it's where I want it," she said.

The double convection ovens have a broiler on the top for easy access. "We have three children, seven grandkids, and when we entertain, there are sometimes up to 60 people trying to get into the kitchen," says Pano Karatassos. "We needed more room for them."

The sink centers a bay window. "We live back here," says Pano Karatassos. "Everything we need is right here. It's hard to leave this room."
