Open space gives painter the vista she needs

Hollis Hildebrand-Mills and her husband purchased their Johns Creek home because of the great views and the wide expanses of wall space.

Artist Hollis Hildebrand-Mills and her husband, Doug Mills, purchased this home with an eye to hanging the large colorful canvases she paints.

The fireplace in the living room. Hildebrand-Mills, who paints in her studio in Little Five Points Community Center, says she's a messy worker, but you'd never know it looking at this house.

A photo gallery of Lyla's childhood winds through the second floor of the home.

"Reading here is like laying outside on the grass," says Lyla of the painted sofa in her bedroom.

Hildebrand-Mills' artwork pops against the white walls. The home's big open space incorporates two living rooms, a dining room and the kitchen, and spans the width of the house.

This wall features a salon-hung collection of framed art by Lyla, from finger painting to collage.

This is a special corner of the house where Lyla creates her artwork.

Lyla's artwork can be found everywhere, even outside.

"Woman," is a work in progress by Hildebrand-Mills.

Another work under construction, this one called "Abyss."

And one more, this entitled "Balls."
