Fine Redesign: Planfusion Design

It took about three months to turn this parking pad into a pool area. BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "The garage, a 75-year-old structure, was in bad shape," Epperson said. "The challenge was taking 400 feet of really good space and trying to figure out how to make everything flow without boxing up the interior. That is why the flooring floats in from the edge of the pool. There is a seamless, graceful falling off into the water."

"It definitely has as inspiration -- something you would find in Greece or Southern France," said Epperson, owner of Planfusion, who did much of the work himself.

The toddler pool is made with Italian glass tiles which Epperson purchased online and laid himself. "It's too expensive to mess up with," said Epperson who paid $20 per square foot of tile on eBay. The columns of the pergola were redone in stone (the old versions were fiberglass), as were most surfaces, with the goal of having it last forever. "What we have today should be here well over the next hundred years when I am gone," Epperson said.

"You can't be inside without being connected to the outside or outside without being connected to the inside," Epperson said. The eggshell leather "Salsa Sofa" which offers an unencumbered view of the pool is from Horizon Home as is the 10-foot Indian Rosewood dining table and chairs in the pergola and the bench that stands near the side of the pool, which was created by Whit Hamilton of Chattahoochee Pools. TOTAL PROJECT COST: $250,000.

An unanticipated benefit of the redesign is that you can sit in the hot tub and have a straight view of the plasma screen in the indoor kitchen/lounge area. Everyone can be in their own space inside or out, and still be connected, Epperson said. BEST FEATURE: "Laying in bed and listening to the waterfall."
