Atlanta firehouse gets a hot makeover from IKEA

Atlanta firehouse No. 23 gets a makeover from IKEA

Firefighters spend about one-third of their lives in the firehouse, so a makeover by IKEA was especially welcome.

There's a lot more work needed, but this is a great start, says firefighter Kelvin "Bump" Jones, who initiated talks with IKEA.

Firefighter John McIlwain shows one of the older chairs that was replaced at Atlanta's Firehouse No. 23 on Howell Mill Road.

A new wall light and red metal cabinet were added to the firehouse. The seating area was brightened with four low-back black chairs, each with its own bright red cushion, and two stacked tables.

The dining area was left untouched during the remodeling, but the break room and other spots in the firehouse were spruced up with IKEA furnishings.
