Macy's Great Tree falls

The tree is put atop Macy's each year. It was being lowered from the roof of the story on Wednesday when it fell.

The Great Tree at Macy's was left lying on the roof at Lenox Square mall on Wednesday after a crane broke.

Pieces of the Great Tree and at least one of the large ornaments fell onto an awning below.

The tree was dangling over the three-story glass façade along the north side of the Macy’s store.

Late Wednesday morning, a second crane was brought in to make another attempt at removing the tree.

The huge crane apparently buckled near the top.
