With only two days before Christmas, shoppers around metro Atlanta were out looking for bargains Tuesday. Facing an uncertain future, retailers continued to offer discounts to drum up business.

At the Mall of Georgia in Buford, sales were plentiful.

Traffic along Ashford-Dunwoody Road in front of Perimeter Mall was heavy Tuesday.

Perimeter Mall's general manager said inventories have gotten low on luxury items such as premium jeans and cashmere.

Consumer spending is down this year and one organization predicts that 73,000 more retail stores will close in the first half of 2009.

At Perimeter Mall, a motorist follows Julie Frick of Atlanta, waiting on her parking space Tuesday. "This is the last of the last (Christmas shopping), buddy," Frick said. "I'm buying a little bit less." Some family members have asked not to exchange gifts this year, she said.
