LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky hospital that was once the last stop for thousands of tuberculosis patients is now a destination for ghost hunters who insist the massive building is haunted.

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium was home to thousands of sickly patients from the time it opened in the 1920s to its closing in 1961.

The building is full of creaky doors, decaying rooms and an underground tunnel that was used to haul away the dead.

Owner Charlie Mattingly says paranormal enthusiasts come from around the world to tour or even spend the night inside the drafty old building. He says many who visited report spooky encounters.

The Louisville site has been featured on several ghost- and Halloween-themed television shows and is well-known nationwide.
