Coke helped cement modern Santa image
Coke commissioned illustrator Haddon Sundblom to reinforce the image of the “modern” Santa – the chubby and plump right jolly old elf. Sundblom looked to the 1822 Clement Clark Moore poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" (commonly called "‘Twas the Night Before Christmas") for inspiration.

It's a myth that Coke invented the modern-day Santa Claus. But the soft drink maker's ad campaigns did reinforce the image of St. Nick as a chubby, jolly man dressed in red, which happens to be Coke's corporate color.
