If you wanted to get your hands on one of the popular hoverboards this holiday season, you may be out of luck.
As first noted by Best Reviews, Amazon quietly pulled the popular gifts off their website Dec. 12. They won't return to the site until they can be proven to be safe, CNBC reported.
The decision came after there have been numerous cases of the hoverboards catching fire and concerns over the toy's lithium-ion batteries.

One of the most popular brands, Swagway, was one of the companies that has had its hoverboards pulled from the online retailer, Mashable reported.

Overstock.com announced recently that it would also stop selling hoverboards due to safety concerns, CNN reported.
A handful of airlines have banned the devices from both carry-on and checked luggage.
