Sure, jogging and swimming burn calories and tone muscles but if you're looking for something a little more on the funky side, a hip-hop fitness class might be right up your alley.

You don't need to be a professional dancer to enjoy these classes (although some schools and studios do offer advanced-level instruction). All that's required is a good attitude and feet yearning to move to the beat. So whether you're confident enough to stand front row center or just hang out in the back, here are a few hip-hop classes around Atlanta.

Dance 101

Dance 101 is a unique adult dance studio created for students ages 18 and up. With so many choices and levels of one-hour sessions offered throughout the week, it's easy to find the perfect fit for you. Weekly schedules are posted online, where you can choose from a variety of classes such as Discover Hip Hop Fit, Hip Hop Groove, Q It Up, King of Hearts and more. Pay $25 for a single class or purchase a multi-class card for $72 (4 classes) or $155 (20 classes). New student specials are also available.

Dance 411 Studios

Dance 411 Studios offers an array of programs for both adults and kids. While the children's program is categorized into three groups -  ages 3-6, 7-10 and 11 and up - most adult sessions are are grouped into beginner, intermediate and advanced-level classes. Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education

This studio's hip-hop class, held on Mondays and Wednesdays, is designed for those who want to groove. It features a fun yet challenging stretch and warm-up with exciting choreography from an experienced dance instructor. Learn fun new moves in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere. Note that a minimum of three paying students must be present in order for a class to be held, so round up your friends.
