September 12, 2014 Rome - The Johnson sisters (from left), Annie M. Johnson, Jennie Johnson Jones and Alva J. Battey, share a laugh as they recall their memories of Glendale Chapel on Friday, September, 12, 2014. The church is being restored on Annie Shields' and Pat York's property near Rome The sisters are the great-granddaughters of the founders of Glendale Chapel. They went to school there and worshiped there as children. It has stood for more than a century in a wooded tract, slowly returning to the soil from which it sprang decades earlier. Now, the people who own the land where the church is located are working with descendants of those long-ago worshipers to make this house of worship whole again. HYOSUB SHIN / HSHIN@AJC.COM
