You’ve likely never heard of this Cumming restaurant that has 98 reviews

The metro Atlanta area is serious about its barbecue, with restaurants often included in national rankings.

The AJC’s annual Best of Atlanta poll for barbecue is one readers participate in most, second only to our pizza poll.

» This is the best barbecue in Atlanta, according to AJC readers

So Yelp’s choice for the best barbecue in Georgia came as bit of a surprise. We’ve never written about it. Many of us had never heard of it.

A few years ago, Socks' Love Barbecue in Cumming "went from catering with a restaurant on the side to a restaurant that caters on the side," Forsyth County News wrote last year.

“One of the most important things you can do for or with someone is share a meal with them or provide a meal for someone,” Steve Hartsock, owner and chef, told FCN. “... I want people to come here and feel like they’re a part of what we’re doing, a part of our family.”

To say we’re grateful would be an understatement. I’m struggling to find just one word to define what this week has meant to Me, my Work & Personal Family. 8 years ago I started this journey. A reversal dinner for a little over 100. I was a nervous wreck. @kimsock was my helper😂. And she wasn’t nervous in the least bit. That night I found my passion. It was that night, Kim and I sat over to the side overwhelmed with satisfaction for what we had accomplished. Fast forward to now... To be recognized as ONE OF THE bests is absolutely humbling And life giving to a small family run business. There are so many “bests”. So many of us get up super early and leave super late. I share these honors with y’all too. I wanted to take a second to thank each and every person who’s helped us along the way. You know who you are and there have been MANY!!! Our doors will open shortly for the last time this week. I’m a happy man!!! We’ll see y’all today, 11-2 or Sold Out ✌🏼- Steven Hartsock
