Twelve-year-old Luke Krohn of Athens will compete tonight in the Food Network’s “Chopped Junior” competition show.

Luke who is a rising seventh-grader at Clarke Middle School, began picking up his cooking skills a few years ago first by watching his mom in the kitchen, then watching TV with her, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Over time, he started watching cooking shows and YouTube cooking videos on his own, she said.

“It was pretty amazing,” Luke said — not just the cooking part and getting to me the other competitors, but being around and getting to know the people who work on the show and see how it’s all put together, according to Athens Banner-Herald.

The show, on tonight (Tuesday, May 31) on Food Network channel, will challenge the junior chefs with a wide variety of foods. Sure, kids love pasta, but will the competitors love the heart-shaped pasta in the appetizer round? Some shellfish that are still on the shell and a lime unlike any lime the competitors have ever tasted are part of the challenge in round two. And then, a creative take on cookies and milk is discovered in the dessert basket.
