Flashback Photos: Navigating North Avenue, 1946-1999

One of Midtown's most famous east-west thoroughfares, North Avenue crosses Peachtree, Piedmont and Spring streets and runs parallel to Ponce de Leon.

Bank of America Plaza, which rises 1,023 feet, is the Southeast's tallest building and is topped with an intriguing skeletal pyramid. The building, which was know as the NationsBank Plaza when this photo was taken in 1992, is located at North Avenue and Peachtree Street.

The Rio Shopping Center was opened in 1988 at the corner of Piedmont Avenue and North Avenue opened in 1988 and was demolished in 2000.

Signs over the Downtown Connector have popped up notifying motorists that North Avenue will be closed in the Westbound direction startng June 9 until August 15 due to Olympic activity around the Georgia Tech campus where athletes will be housed and several events will take place. (06/06/96)
