Shields has two children: son Gryphon, 6, and daughter Alice, 4. The illustrator began experimenting with pancake art as a way to make breakfast for fun for his kids.

Shields started creating pancake art about three years ago, and his Internet fame has grown ever since, with his work featured on Facebook and Twitter.  Shields recently posted a video of his gorilla pancake creation that has racked up over 900,000 page views on YouTube in less than a month.

This week, "Good Morning America" featured a segment on Shields and his fun art form.

Next up for Shields? He’s looking for a literary agent and plans to create a coffee-table book with images of his delicious artwork, complete with how-to tips so parents can try to whip up some breakfast magic at home.
