FIO360, located in Atlantic Station, is an upscale child day care that promotes a green lifestyle. The center contains no plastics and features bamboo floors, Solatube skylights and saltwater fountains. It also boasts an alphabet climbing wall, non-toxic art supplies and a Lego Dome.

The day care opened about two months ago with a "soft enrollment" of a few dozen kids. At full capacity, 268 children can be enrolled between the ages of six weeks through Pre-K. Summer camps are open to older kids.

In-house executive chef Marlon Carpenter makes organic, hormone-free meals every day. Dishes include curry chicken, red pepper quiche and arugula salad. It's the kind of place that sweetens with only authentic Vermont maple syrup. The cranberry oatmeal bars for the afternoon snack are made from scratch.

The day care is a shoeless environment. The center's Web site says shoes can track dirt and germs on the floor, so it provides slippers for children and staff.

To send a kid to FIO360, it costs $1,529 monthly for preschoolers and $1,708 for infants. Gwendolyn Ward (center) checks to make sure food is okay during the lunch.

Rooms all feature child-sized doors. Here, Max Nadler, who is one and a half years old, peeks outside. "We want this space to be their space, so things need to be their size," said Dana Ginger, FIO360 executive director. And by the way, the doors are 3form doors which use recycled, low emitting resin. The day care also has a room for ballet and yoga classes.

Rooms feature artistic details, such as this fishing sculpture. On a recent afternoon, children in the class made fishing poles out of lemon grass. They attached clips and pretended to go fishing.

The center's lighting includes dragon fly pendant lighting and skylights. Decorative boxes hold inspirational phrases such as "Every artist was first an amateur."

The rooftop playground includes slides, swings, wooden doll house, bubbling brick fountains and wind chimes. The soft ground was made with recycled materials.

FIO360 (FIO comes from the Latin root word, "to become") sits on the edge of Atlantic Station next to Dillard's and a bevy of shops and restaurants. The finished product cost $3.7 million.

Staff uses only organic soaps like Naked Bee, which are also for sale to parents in the in-house store. Staff also use salt crystal Himalayan lamps and play global music -- also available for purchase. Owner Crissy Klaus plans to soon offer gourmet, take out dinners. "We want to do everything we can to support parents and help them have as much quality time with their kids as possible," she said.

Nadler, 1, plays with toys after lunch. Toys include natural and organic toys such as stuffed animals made with organic cotton and wooden toys, including wooden boats and tables. No plastic, battery operated, light-ups here.
