Eighth annual Ella’s Run set for Oct. 17

Registration for the annual Ella’s Run, the 5K founded by the non-profit Right to Hike, Inc., is open.

This year’s event, which includes the popular one mile fun run/walk, will be held Oct. 17 at The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center in Buford.

Right to Hike was founded to honor the life of Meredith Hope Emerson who lost her life in 2008 while hiking in the North Georgia Mountains. Emerson was a Buford resident who loved the outdoors, her black lab, Ella, and her community.

“Ella’s Run is such a special day for all of us,” said Julia Karrenbauer, president of Right to Hike, in a press release. “It is amazing to see all the runners and walkers come out to celebrate Meredith’s memory with their families and dogs. I know Meredith always smiles down on us and makes sure the weather is perfect.”

Pre-registration and race packet pick up will be available on Oct. 16 at Georgia’s Own Credit Union’s Buford Location. To register or apply to become a vendor or sponsor of the event, log onto www.righttohikeinc.com.

Proceeds from the event go towards the purchase of emergency cell phone units for local parks and to support the local humane society.
