The cottage style of Judy Brooks’ new two-story home in Cumming is a departure from the traditional decor in her former ranch home.

Textures such as rattan and driftwood, wood from old barns and picnic tables, and even accessories such as pink flamingos and a set of oars bet a nautical theme without going overboard. The eclectic, cozy decor creates a casual feel that brings back memories — and creates new ones.

“We had a cottage on a lake in Michigan growing up and I love the cottage-type feel of the home,” said Brooks, who works in the travel industry.

Favorite piece of furniture: The mahogany table, originally given to her father as a graduation gift, that now is in her foyer, next to the staircase and underneath a sphere-shaped light fixture from Ballard Designs. "It is a sentimental piece for me," she said.

Favorite outdoor features: The mixture of stone and siding, and the second-story windows, which add cottage character to the home.
