One women convinced an armed man to surrender at an Atlanta school. Another dishes out justice and sometimes a good talking to in her courtroom. Another became president of the Morehouse School of Medicine.

All three have made a difference in their communities and they will be honored during the annual Celebration of Women luncheon Saturday in Atlanta.

They are Antoinette Tuff was able to talk Michael Brandon Hill into not harming others when he entered the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy armed ; Judge Glenda A. Hatchett, an author and TV personality; and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President of Morehouse School of Medicine.

Celebration of Women is an event of the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. It will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel, One Hartsfield Centre Parkway. The fundraiser will benefit scholarship recipients and provide funding for the organization’s Betty Shabazz Academy, the Delta GEMS, and the EMBODI project (for young men). The celebration pays tribute to women who are “Empowered Leaders Impacting the Global Community.”

The Delta Chapter Torch Awards will be presented to women who have excelled in leadership roles throughout metropolitan Atlanta and the world beyond including Dr. Elaine Archie-Booker, professor, Morehouse School of Medicine Professor; and attorneys Davida and Janice Mathis, radio personalities on “Sisters-in-Law” and practicing lawyers.

“90 Years of Celebrating Women in Character, Courage, and Commitment” is the theme for the event.
