Atlanta is a city that upholds the spirit of generosity and giving year-round.

This week's Best of Atlanta poll found out which local charities are closest to your heart.

The Atlanta Humane Society is responsible for providing multitudes of cats and dogs forever homes in our community. Coming in as the #1 charity that Atlantans love to give to, your dollar goes far to provide meals, shelter and love to thousands of animals.

Coming in second place, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a worthy charity that provides care and well-being to the children of our city. You can donate a monetary gift or purchase needed equipment specialized for kids.

No one deserves to go hungry. As the third most popular charity in Atlanta, every $1 donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank provides four meals for hungry children, hardworking families and struggling seniors.

There are many worthwhile charities in Atlanta that deserve our support. Be sure to consider our other official nominees when deciding where to spread the love: Atlanta Ronald McDonald House CharitiesAmerican Cancer Society FoundationCenter for Civil and Human RightsHabitat for HumanityHands on AtlantaCARE and The Giving Kitchen.

As the holidays near, a special donation or gift of service might be all a local charity needs to make a difference in our community.
