Passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport need not worry about missing out on Ash Wednesday.

They can still receive the mark of the cross, made from burned palm fronds, as they jet off to their destinations or return to Atlanta.

The Rev. Donna S. Mote, who serves as an Episcopal Church chaplain at the airport, will offer the ancient symbol of penitence at the main security screening area of the airport's domestic terminal to passengers and employees from 7 a.m. until noon.

Ash Wednesday starts the Lenten season in several faith traditions.

She will then go to some of the concourses.

The Archdiocese of Atlanta also offers ash to travelers at the airport and has done so for a number of years.

Fr. Tom Zahuta from the Atlanta Archdiocese will hold mass at 11:30 Wednesday in the interfaith chapel the “F” concourse.

Several deacons will be at the airport to offer prayers and administer ashes.
