‘Jurassic’ franchise tops $6 billion

The current installment, ‘Jurassic World Dominion,’ reached $990 million over the weekend

Original cast of 'Jurassic Park' reportedly joining 'Jurassic World 3'

In 1993, “Jurassic Park” reached over $1 billion in global sales on a $30 million dollar budget. Now, six installments later, the franchise has reached the $6 billion mark, thanks to the latest installment, “Jurassic World: Dominion.”

Featuring “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Chris Pratt, “Jurassic World: Dominion” is the conclusion to the Jurassic franchise, according to the series website. Without giving away any spoilers, this new film reveals the investigation of a genetically engineered swarm of giant “insects.”

“When Colin told me the whole plot, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so glad you’re in charge of all this,’” said Chris Pratt to EW “Because if it was up to me, I would’ve blown it.”

The latest flick had major competition over the weekend, with Jordan Peele’s “Nope,” “Bullet Train,” starring Brad Pitt, and “Top Gun: Maverick” all earning impressive numbers.

As a refresher, the last Jurassic movie “Fallen Kingdom” left the fanbase with a major cliffhanger. After waiting patiently for the past four years, the series promised to make the finale the biggest one yet.

One of the series’ OGs, Jeff Goldblum, was excited to end the franchise with two well known franchise favorites, Sam and Laura. In an interview with Variety, Goldblum said the reunion on set was very emotional.

“I was wildly anticipating our getting together on the set, I couldn’t believe that we were going to do this.” said Goldblum

The latest movie release came at the perfect time, as it coincides with the 25-year anniversary of “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”

While “Jurassic World: Dominion” was released in theaters in June, Jurassic lovers can catch the film on Peacock starting Friday Sep. 2. The streaming premier will feature extra footage that wasn’t shown in theaters.
