September 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day, but you don’t have to wait nine months to have a swashbuckling good time with our maties.

Head to Fernbank Museum in a couple of weeks (January 23) and you can not only talk like a pirate, you can dress like one, get a pirate name and even walk the plank.

When you arrive, head to the pirate name generator in the Great Hall. After all, how many pirates do you know named Amy or Caleb? Once you have your seafaring moniker, test your sea legs as you dance to a variety of pirate tunes.

Think you’re a brave buccaneer? You can prove it by walking the plank. Fernbank crew members will entertain the smaller crew members with scalawag stories.

You might even meet a pirate. Members of the Atlanta Pirates and Wenches Guild will be visiting the museum that day, so be sure to look for them.

Costumes are encouraged for all mateys, and face coverings are required.

Space is limited and advance online ticket reservations are required for members and nonmembers.

The cost of Pirate Day is included with your museum admission, so it’s free for members. For nonmembers, admission is $20 for ages 13-64; $19 for ages 65 and older; and $18 for ages 3-12.

General admission tickets include all museum exhibits and outdoor experiences, including 75 acres of nature adventures in WildWoods and Fernbank Forest. Tickets also include parking, but spaces are limited.
